ELEMENTS OF THE
CONFIRMATION PROGRAM
CLASS SESSIONS: We will meet every Sunday from 4:30pm - 6:00pm. We will be using a number of different resources throughout the year to teach the class. There will also be a retreat in the Fall and the Spring. Participation in all of this is required and expected. Please let Nate know in advance if you cannot attend a class session. There will be little or no homework but lots of encouragement to continue to study and think about confirmation and what it means each and every day. Please bring your bibles to class every week along with a pencil or pen. We are asking that every week, two families provide a dinner for the class. There is a sign-up sheet available.
WORSHIP: Confirmands are expected to worship regularly on Sunday mornings and or evenings. Worship is the heart of the church life, and the student’s faith will develop fully as they learn more about what it means to live as a Christian. There will be times when the confirmands will have responsibilities at worship times (TV crew, nursery, Youth Sunday, Advent candle lighting, etc.).
VISITS TO OTHER CHURCHES: After the first of the year, the class will visit several other religious worship services. In the past, classes have visited African-American churches, a Jewish Synagogue, an Islamic mosque, an Assemblies of God church, a Roman Catholic Church and several others. Parents will be needed to help drive. Students will be required to write an evaluation of each church visit and turn it in.
SERVICE PROJECTS: Each student will have the opportunity to participate in several service projects as part of the class. I am asking that each student also find an opportunity outside of church to participate in a service project. Each student is required to participate in at least one meal delivery to the Haven Center (3rd Saturday of every month). Service is at the core of being a Christian and we hold this element in high regard.
YOUTH SUNDAY: We will schedule a date for a youth-led worship, where the Confirmation class will be responsible for most of the service, probably at a Crossroads evening celebration.
MENTORS: Each student will be assigned a mentor during the fall. Mentors will meet with the students to write their statements of faith.
CONFIRMATION SUNDAY: The date is Sunday June 7th @ 10:00am
